If I remember correctly, the early and smaller cu.in. Hemi's were approx. the same size as the early (big block)poly 318s and purhaps the bolt pattern is the same ?
I do know that some parts like the timingchain are interchangable between them.
As for the L-head or flathead bellhousing goes, nothing else will bolt to it but there are some poly 318 bellhousings that will accept 3 diff. eng.,the L-head,slant-6,and poly 318 engines.
So, there is a good possibility that using the poly bellhousing with the helitool 318 kit, the early Hemi could be shoehorned in for a decent repower but hey, the poly 318 would be the better choice with about as much HP as the early Hemi's.
