A Diamond impregnated shapener will work fast. It has little dots on it with rubber and steel center. I would not use a file on a good knife removes to much metal fast but will do the job. The file is good to take out nicks. Never use a grinder you can ruin the edge temper and trash a good knife. I use several stones and finish with a ceramic stone for that razor edge. A Arkinsaw Hard is another good stone but takes work to get a edge. Depends on your knife if it is made out of good steel or not. I have a few worth several hundred dollars that I just need to touch up with a Ceramic Stone. But I won't use them on just anything either. For a working pocket knife a fine file will put a good edge on it fast! Mark H.
