I'm in the market for a newer truck and want to get something that will tow my WC 3/4 ton. I don't plan on towing it very far and maybe only 6 or 7 times a year. I'll use it as my commuting vehicle and won't beat it. I'm looking now at a 2001 Dodge 1500 4X4 Extended Cab, V8 5.9L (gas). The truck has a rated towing capacity of 7600 pounds when equipped with a class IV hitch. Based on what I said above, do I really have to have a specific tranny, gear ratio, etc.? Should I be looking for a 2500 series? Some other trucks I've seen have a 5.2L, is that strong enough? Is a factory installed tow package better than after market? Sorry for the long post and so many questions, but there is so much knowledge on this site, that I would be stupid not to ask.
Thanks
Tim
