Actually I like the best of both worlds!! All my vintage PW trucks are equipped with the stock mechanical pump (some include the built in vacuum pump) and I have installed electric pumps near to the tank with a toggle switch to actuate them when needed (like ascending the 48 degree climbs at Moab) This 'turbo boost' option has saved me many times yet the mechanical pump will suffice in most everyday uses. I have trucks that are 6, 12 and 24 volts! All have electrics installed! Do both! Then your truck will work as origional, but you will have the security of an instant back-up! Be sure to buy the heavy duty solenoid type pumps! They have easily replacable micro filters too! (Around $45) They will last for years!
