Buying rebuilt is always a crap shoot. Whenever I can get new parts versus rebuilt I go that route even if the parts cost double.
9 times out of 10, rebuilt means they took it apart, cleaned things & replaced what was broken....bead blasted it to make it look pretty along with maybe a new set of bearings. This doesn't mean something else isn't about to let go in the unit.
There are reputable companies that go the extra mile but now aday people seem to shop by price so it forces these companies to compete by selling to the public for less, which means crappie rebuilds.
Best bet is to go to a reputable mechanic & ask who does the best rebuilds in your area. Likely it's something a local shop can do a much better job of than an assembly line style rebuilder that supplies Napa & the big chains.
Buy new Dodge if you can find it!
I just bought a new NV5600 6 speed transmission from Dodge & I'm confident that it is 1000% less likely to develop problems than a unit that has already had many many miles put on it before being fixed.
The extra price I paid is nothing compared to the frustration of having to do the job again.
Good luck with it...you should get at least 200K out of a new unit.
