Chris has the right idea.When I lived in Gillette Wyoming in '82 everyone had a block heater in their vehicle.You could buy them at any auto parts store.If I remember right you simply spliced into the lower radiator hose,and heater hose, the units are very small.
It seemed like every employer had a bank of plug in outlets in the parking lots.I still have the '74 3/4 ton 4/4 Chevy pickup I bought in Spotted Horse Wyoming. The block heater when plugged in didn't really show movement on the temp. gauge. To show the difference,at 10 above I plugged in, the next day same temp forgot to plug in and couldn't get it to fire up. I remember then plugging in and walking across the street to a coffee shop and waited a couple of hours,then she fired right up.Yep,when I move to a colder climate,that's the first thing the PW's will get.
