I'm in NW Arkansas and burn wood only for my heat source.. Red and White oak are the trees that I cut for heat.. We never cut a tree if it's not already diseased. Red and White oak seasoned and split is the best. I wouldn't think about hauling a Pine, Spruce or any other member of the evergreen for firewood, soft maples are also up in smoke very quikly. They just burn way hot and fast. Oak will last you much longer too. I have 1900 square feet and don't even have it all open. My stove is called a "Country Stove" Had it for the last two years and only burn around eight ricks a year (a rick is 8L 2W & 4 feet high). A cord is twice that so what is the reason for having to burn so many cords a year? I lived in Evergreen, CO for 6 years and know I could heat for that, there also...
