I only heat with wood....with a outdoor wood burning boiler and split half my 10 cords for this year by hand and the other half with a friends home-made splitter. Northern Hyd. sells all the parts to make one and everyone else (Home Depot,etc.) sells complete set ups for $700-800.
Only problem with most of them is the ram stroke----my Burner will take up to 40" logs and most splitters only do up to 24-28"
That's my 2 cents.
