The Transfer case is either a NP208 wich takes ATF. you can identify it, but the aluminum case. The other case would be the NP 205 gear drive, and these take Gear lube. This is a cast iron case. I have noticed the Dash lights on these 80's style trucks tend to be dim as well, I dont know why tho. Good luck with your new toy!
