Siped tires is nothing more than making thin cuts across the tread of the tire. It became popular in motorcycle road racing with wet road conditions. The cuts are about an inch or so apart and I've seen them both at an angle or staight across. Sorta turns the tire into somewhat of a skweegee for additional grippage. I personally thought it was voodoo until I had the tire shop do a demo for me. Here we can run studs from Oct to May then you got to put non studded tires on so you end up with two sets of rubber. Siped tires can run all year. Right now, none of my rigs are running siped rubber but I used to run an old beat up chevy plow truck and siped it's tires. Made a big difference. Maybe I shoulda siped my wife's blazer tires before she rolled it. Man, better not let that slip she'll finally have a reason to blame me for that too.
