My inlaws live in the Loveland/Ft. Collins area of Colorado. They experienced the same thing about 15-20 years ago. Now the area is a mini-California, and the people that have lived there for multiple generations are getting squeezed. Quite frankly I don't like to even visit there because it is so crowded.
There is a dairy farm near my father in laws place that has been in business over 100 years. Recently the "newcomers" in town tried to pass local legislation to get the dairy farm closed because of the smell (I've been by there several times and the smell is barely noticeable). I guess they felt that "living in the country" shouldn't come with any "country smells" even though the farm was there long before they moved in. Go figure.
