I wonder who's call it was, NOT to change the engine bolt pattern to that of chrysler's? That WAS the best idea Chevy ever had was to make all engines with the same bellhousing bolt patttern.
Surely the use of electric fans and waterpumps would solve the length problem?
I was attempting a retro for an old cut-down
M-43 w/230. If it had worked I would have converted my WM300 w/251.
Let us put aside the petty worry of length and concentrate on adapting successfully the 258 to the original bellhousing or adapting
the NP420 to the 258 bellhousing! I have no problem of what engine is finally adapted except that it be a chrysler either by orinal design or proxy by buyout and hopefully a in-line. I would prefer a in-line 6 diesel like the SD-33 made by chysler/nissan and used in the IH scout in the the 70's w/a 727 tranny but, they are too hard and expensive to come by.
Surely we have enough gray matter in the PW community to come up with a in-line 6 of reliable and increased HP for our PWs while staying brand loyal!?
