In 1963, I had occasion to drive my unit's 1957 administrative (non-tactical) 1/2 ton Chevvy, short step-side, pick-up. It was painted gloss OD. It, too, had "three on the tree" and a 6 cyl.

Put an original bed on this e-bay "morph" and return it to stock and you would have a nearly authentic truck like the real one I drove 40 years ago.

I am not a purist. I have disc brakes on my WC-52. Still, I wonder how much awareness of reality a person has who will try to pass off a "morph" as being something it is not.

For years the movies have had WWII German forces charging into battle in M-37's. John Wayne rode in an M-151 in a WWII movie and called it a "jeep". Many people accept things at the most superficial level. And anything that is painted OD is "genuine" military.

While the movie producers apparently think all moviegoers are idiots who will believe anything they see, I feel bad when I see "reenactors" ignoring authenticity by using non-authentic vehicles in their reenactments.

On the other hand, I have seen historical photos of WC-21's in training maneuvers with a wooden silhouette attached to the side representing a tank. The other day a convoy of Army "Humvee's" passed here returning to Fort Hood from off-post training areas. They had been modified using plywood panels to make them look like equipment manufactured in the former Soviet bloc countries and now in use by many of the in the "terrorist bloc" nations. So who's to say what is really "authentic" any more.

Maybe the owner of this "morph" knows the truth and has done it as a joke on gullible friends.

As for truth in advertising on "e-Bay" ...

What's so amusing about this bogus truck is that somewhere, sometime, someone has said, "That's a nice jeep."
