I have a perfectly straight 99' 3500 chassis & running gear. The cab and service bed had an unfortunate encounter with an overpass while being transported on an equipment trailer. I bought the remains which included the Cummins turbo diesel , Allison trans all undamaged. The cab was sheared off just below the windshield and the service body, being considerably stouter was separated from the chassis and landed in the middle of the interstate causing much consternation. I was able to aquire the remains from our insurance carrier. I had a friend who runs a frame shop check the chassis and he pronounced it servicable and within spec. I removed the engine and trans awaiting an opportunity to install them in some worthy vehicle.
I'm now considering installing a classic cab
like John's W500 or maybe a COE cab on the modern chassis. I don't want to ruin a restorable powerwagon so I'll be looking for a 58' or 59 cab or maybe an older COE. Has anybody here done this? What are the pitfalls?
Sorry for the lengthy posting. I thought it might head off repetitive Q&A thereby saving bandwidth in the long run. At least, that's my story. RDT
