This is done whenever the battery is unhooked, the generator or alternator (if it uses a external VR), is disconected, or the Vr is replaced. Or the truck has sat for a while. It is very simple. Just use a double ended aligator clip (fancy), or just a piece of 10 gauge wire works (what I use). This is done when everything is hooked prior to turning the key on. Connect the alligator clip to the battery terminal on the VR, then for a split second, touch the other end of the wire to the armature terminal on the VR. That's it.
