Carb Question

So, I have this '56 Power Wagon (*Flat Fender* - you purists!) with a square top carb that I have been told several times is from older model years. Anyway, the carb is very fussy about its float adjustment - you can set it up to run fine on the road, but then it hates steep hills (30+ deg kind of hills). I'm fooling around with float settings and looking for a replacement pump skirt and making sure the air horn doesn't break in half (again) and it occures to me - why not get the correct carb for the '56 model year? Maybe it's better!

Well, is it?

This adventure is likely to cost significant money since I'll also have to replace the oil bath filter attachment and probably the governor as well, plus all the inevitable fiddling around with the fuel line and linkage. Is it worth it, or should I keep fiddling with what I have?
