I have just started doing some bodywork on my 41 half ton and I
have noticed a layer of black primer-like stuff underneath the
regular paint. It is a milimeter or so thick and can actually
be scraped off with a gasket scraper or similar tool. It's like
a crispy layer all over the place. I have never seen anything
like this before and don't know if maybe it is some type of
undercoating the military used. Don't know if it might be lead
based so I don't know what precautions to take in removing it.
I think I will have to remove it all because there are some areas
where the rust goes all the way to the metal and it seems nearly
impossible to feather the edge into the areas where I am just
removing the old surface paint.
Any ideas??
