Had the same thing with a '77 F150. Got rid of it in '79 with the dents in the cab. Sounds like elongating the bed bolt holes and scooting the bed would be a good way to overcome the problem though it might be a better idea to have a frame specialist stiffen the frame since your 22 year old steel might also be getting weak!
