I called today to find out more about the advertised engine. Seller claims that he bought the Cummins 4BT at auction about 1 year ago. Previous to that it had been used as a demo motor at a diesel mechanics school. Hence it has very low hours and he is advertising it as "new in crate." The CPL label was gone when he got it, but he traced some of the specs back through Cummins by using various serial numbers on certain parts. It is designated "Generator/Pump", and has a top turbo and a rotary pump. Its rated at 102 HP and 1800 RPM. He bought it intending to use it in an antique cabover truck restoration project, but has too many projects and needs the $3500. He also said that for that price he would include certain other parts that he accumulated for his project including a bell housing, alternator, and brackets.
Does anyone have any comments, suggestions, or other good questions that I should have answered before pursuing it further. I appreciate everyone's input yesterday and am reluctant to start digging a money pit. On the other hand, this may be the first step toward a really nice diesel M37 or Flat Fender PW. If anyone else is interested, its located north of Denver and is advertised in the local Truck Trader. I can give more details if anyone requests.
Thanx, Bruce
