Michael,

Dodge made about 8,000 3/4 ton carryalls (WC53) in 1942, the only year they made them. A fair number have survived, since a 4x4 closed cab vehicle was very useful in cold climates. My father bought a carryall surplus in 1946, and used it as his only "car" for several years (cars were in short supply in 1946). I inherited my father's carryall 18 years ago, and am still "restoring" it.

I don't think that a 2-speed rear was stock. A 2-speed transfer case could have been added by a motor pool or someone else. Dodge made a conversion kit for the 2-speed transfer cases used on the WC62/63s.

My best suggestion is to get copies (Portrayal makes reprints) of the WC operation, maintenance manuals, and master parts manual (available from several sources). Get yourself on Vintage Power Wagons mailing list and get a copy of their excellent parts catalog. Gordon Manney (Scotland) is an excellent resource for carryall information. Most carryall owners I have talked to are willing to send you digital photos of their trucks.

From experience, the interior parts are the hardest to find (ie, most expensive). You may end up either making/rebuilding some body/sheet metal parts yourself or paying someone else to make or repair these parts.

Good luck with you carryall.
Dave
