I'm not sure of the difference. I know that the momentary pushbutton type is operated as follows: Step on brake, hold pedal down, push button, which activates a checkvalve in the brake line, then release brake pedal. The pressure beyond the valve is held, and not released until you step on the brakes again, putting more pressure on the master-cylinder side than on the wheel-cylinder side, releasing the valve.

I believe, but don't quote me, the toggle switch type keeps an electrical current going to the valve, and when the switch is released, so are the brakes. Release of the held brakes is not dependent upon stepping on the pedal again.

The first type will keep the brakes on indefinitely (theoretically) and the second type only as long as electricity is switched to the valve.

I am not in a hurry, and have no preference between those two types. I have had experience with the first type, and it makes winching and other extrication operations easier.

It's the valve that would be handy to have, as any old pushbutton would be adaptable. I have a couple of trucks that could use them.

Thanks. apb
