a beginning point to determine year is the serial number. It will start with the year for example 52 08005(this is my winch serial number), the rest I assume is a serial number with the 8000 meaning 8,000Lbs. 52 being the year. You will find this number just below the filler plug on that flat surface stamped in on top drivers side main gear drive housing. Hope this helps.
