How it works:
1. The WDX & WM300 types that I have are equipped with check valves on the vents for the gear cases. (How well they work I do not know)

2. The Military vehicles with the "fording kit" installed have tubing (Metal & flex lines) from all vents (includes all gearcases, fuel tank, master cylinder, etc.)that go to the air intake system for the engine. So if you submerge the "snorkle", every thing gets a dose of water!
