None of my trucks are trailer queens & other than the Daniel Tibus M37, they all have generators & 6V batteries. I've never had one fail, never gotten stuck & I honestly believe a generator to be miles more reliable than an alternator. A generator is just an electric motor. They don't get any simpler & rarely stop working. I've bought more than 12 derlic P/W's & all generators have still been working when I've tested them. That being said it's obviously not wise to venture out in the bush with a 60 year old generator & not having it rebuilt first & at least replacing the brushes. 12V will start a bad engine easier than A 6V battery but if your engine is healthy & tuned well, a 6V system works excellent.
I have no problems with anyone updating their system for whatever reason but all I'm telling you is the original system is VERY reliable if your truck has been gone through properly.
