Vacuum Wiper Question

Can anyone give me a quick explaination of how the wiper arm attaches to this vacuum wiper motor? Is this motor missing something? Does the shaft of the motor need to protrude further than the outside nut in this picture? I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance.
