It was a conversion done by an aftermarket company.
58 W300s are not that common, so unless it is a real basket case I would try and find a good home for the 58 W300, and then repair the axle under the COE.
I would be very interested in pictures of your truck, and maybe some specs.
As for it being a 57, are you sure? The 57-59 COEs used the same sheetmetal, with a couple minor changes. It is pretty easy to confuse the three years as all being 57. Just trying to add to your fund of knowledge.
If you do part the 58 W300 I would be interested in what is left, if you are anywhere near places I go.
