Factory Mutual Insurance (FM) recomends that all welding be stopped 30 minutes prior to end of work day. Gives you time to clean up, and be alert for any hot spots from sparks. Always have a presure water fire extinguisher handy. Most major industry follow this rule. I stretch it to 45 minutes before I know I am quitting, no cutting/welding.
