First, you place the blocks with the openings vertical! Not horizontal. Make sure there are no visble fractures in the block. Second, seat them on the ground surface so the weight is distributed evenly on the ground and the ground is firm enough so the block will not sink in. Third, distribute the weight onto the block using a 2x4, 4x4, or 2x6 across all three webs of the block.
A well made block end or center web will withstand a crush pressure of 3200PSI minimum, so, unless you omit one of the
above three factors, they are as safe or even more stable than the best jack stand.
I have installed many thousand blocks through the years as well as used them for the purpose of support with no problems.
