If you have accesss to a Cabela's catalog or other simular catalog, check out the wildlife monitoring camera which take pics of
any wildlife size critter with either flash camera or infared. See who it is and catch them on film or digital so you can prosecute.
A camera will only warn them that you are watching.
A cheap system I devised was to buy a cheap floodlight/motion sensor for around $10,install no bulbs but do install a screw-in plug receptical in which you run a extension or other cord into your house to a buzzer. Your intruder will be detected and you will be alerted without his knowledge and you can call the cops or slip outside and drawdown on him or both. Maybe even switch on the electricity to the fence so he can't get out of the yard! I hate theives.
