I am a Mile Marker Co distributor, so my opinion about electric winches is admittedly biased towards hydraulic or PTO winches.

Please see the website mentioned below for some scary and interesting info about electrically-powered winches.

Converting one over to electric seems, in my humble opinion, an exercise in rearward thinking. Without knowing exactly why you asked the question, (maybe 'cause you don't have a PTO on your truck?) I think you should consider a different method.

The Mile Marker line of hydraulic winches use power from the power steering system for operation. If your truck already has hydraulic power steering, then you're in luck! You can get a winch for practically any late-model truck. The military uses them on the HMMVW and on the M35A3 deuce&a'half.
