That is a problem with older cars. You can check them by putting it in gear, locking the brake and sliping the clutch with the hood open. That way you can see how far the engine lifts and then put it in reverse and do the same. Chevys had a problem with them breaking and flooring the engine and pushing the clutch out. The linkage was hooked to the block. Had it happen a few time reving my engine at a stop light!! They finely made them so steel would hold them if they broke. That is why you see a lot of chains on engines bolted to the frame. Mark H.
