Jason, Sounds like you're working on a Dana 44 front axel. My experience is with the 1 ton Dana 70 axels, but I think yours is similar, and uses a bronze cone on top. You should be able to remove the small woodruff key from the top trunnon pin where the bronze rides, and replace the bronze with the same tapered roller as the lower bearing. Lube it up well with stiff grease before assembly. You need to play with the shim pack (gasket on the bottom, shims on the top for the small knuckle, shims top and bottom for big knuckle version) to get a bit of preload without the knuckle seals in place. Then put a hydraulic steering damper on, and you'll love it. Rob
