Here is the axle. It has 4 cross members, 8 spring mounts, 1 air tank about 80 rivet all needing to be removed and reinstalled if I move the axle forward. This is what all the weight sits on and has to be real strong as compaired to the front part of the frame near the cab. Being as the frame is so long it is a double frame so it has twice as much steel as a short truck has. By another plate over the welded stagerd 45 deg welded 2 sections of frame it will be 3 thicknesses of steel over 3/8 thick each or about 1 inch of a inch of steel "C" chanel 6 inches high. I do not think that will break under a load of less than 26,000 lbs and most of that load will be over the rear axle not on the welded area. I will do more checking into a few shops concidering this work being safe. Mark H.
