With very little fanfare we run B20 (20% biodiesel from soy oil, 80% deisel from petroleum) in the NCDOT fleet. Cost is higher since there are no plants making the stuff near us, but it is one of those things that you get Federal funds for doing... (reinbursment of the extra expense). Have not had any problems, but have only been doing it statewide two years.

NCSU is running it in all thier diesels starting this year and paying the same $0.15 more per gallon with Federal refund that we are.

One commercial gas station in Raleigh has it, but the purchasers do not get a refund for the extra expense.

Supporters of the whole idea (folks providiing the funds) hope that enough interest will be generated that a plant will be built locally to supply the biodiesel from the state's soy bean crop.

I thought about making some at home to play with once, but getting used fryer oil is difficult since it appears that all the resturants locally have deals with reprocessors already (and I don't know what they make out of it, but it isn't going into our tanks...).
