I was thinking about putting a Cummins 4bta into my 48 and talked to the guys at Cummins who told me that the 4bta was not rated for highway use.
The explanation that they gave that the 4bta was not certified for vehicles of less thabn 8900lbs and that installation of the 4bta in a vehicle of less than than that weight would probably run afoul of emissions regulations.
Now that was what "they" told me. Which may or may not be correct. It could be that they just did not want to answer any questions from a hobbyist or more likely the legal department told them not to endorse any one-off applications.
