Check for a shorted or broken spark plug. Incomplete firing could be causing a lot of raw gas getting into the exhaust system. Get it fixed quickly or you may burn a hole in your piston. I had a similar problem with my PW. It would get very hot as you describe but also a spark plug would back out of its hole slightly due to the heat. It was quickly resolved with a new set of plugs. A guy at NAPA told me what the problem was. Key point for him that a plug kept backing out slightly.
