I've read about this topic many times but never thought much about it until now. Who's had good luck with a guage repair shop getting the needle hung back on the plastic center in the speedo? I tried doing it myself but the o.d. of the plastic seems to be a little worn down or deteriorated and won't hold the pointer ring, not to mention the plastic and hub seems warped. There's probably a shop in my area that does gauge repair but I'd like to find an outfit that's done the 39-50 style speedos and is reasonably priced.
