Fingerprint powder for the most part is micropulverized graphite and other assorted minerals and will be in the interior of your car or house forever and you will hear about it every time your spouse gets in the car in light colored clothing that will also carry that distinction forever. There is usally a large amount of extra fingerprints for undetermined people and with just partial prints ie. someone walking by, friends drooling over your power wagon relatives et cetra and the only person with a finger print is usually the crime scene unit with 1 maybe 2 units. But criminals are pretty ingenious I had a rash of car thefts on my beat where a lot of homeless hung out kept breaking into the GOVs I couldnt figure out what they were using all I found was a spark plug usually its a tire iron through the window are suitably shaped piece of curb cement 95%I was sent to this school on burglary about the end of the second week
of this and the Instructor thirty years a burglary detective explained how the porcelin on a spark plug is great for breaking out windows on cars and then did it on a test window. I caught the guy but he was gone by the time I had the paper work done. And you know he showed up for court. But everyonce in a while I catch the right guy with the right attorney and the right judge and it is off They go to get educated by the prison system that we pay for. I worked an operation with the local PD during a concert and spotted from a roof and we caught 13 people breakin in cars in that area in three hours and that was in the middle of the week.
