I purchased a 1957 PW and hauled it 300 miles on a U-Haul trailer. I had spent about three weeks calling all over my city trying to find a larger car hauler. I had no problems but I do not recommend such a small trailer.

First, the deck on a U-Haul hauler is only 12' long. When the PW was loaded I had only about three inches in front of the tires before the deck ended.

Second, I discovered that the truck has to be loaded on rear first (i.e., tailgate next to the hitch). The weight of the front end helps balance the trailer load. Otherwise, the trailer begins severe swaying at speeds above 35 MPH. This was the only mistake I made. The truck was not running and I had to make a stop at a body shop and get help to off-load and reload the truck.

Third, top speed is about 60 MPH.

Fourth, tie this vehicle down with chains and retighten in the first ten, twenty, and thirty miles. Vibration will relax the tension on the chains. Thereafter, check about once per hour.

No problems!

Would I do it again? No! I had a heavy equipment operator making the trip with me. He had experience in loading trackhoes, dozers and he did a good job. However, with only a couple or so inches to cover any slippage I would recommend a professional hauler or a longer trailer. If you make the slightest mistake you will lose your toy and possibly kill someone on the road in another car.
