Hey guys, thanks for the advice; here's some more info:
Unfortunately for me, I found out the 4WD was not working while I had the truck backed down a steep hill in the woods with a 4,200 lb chipper attached. There was no noise when the tcase was engaged, and there was no "breaking" sound. There have never, in the year I've owned it, been "funny" sounds coming from the front end. I checked the hubs several times, and I'm fairly certain that they were turned to "engaged," as cast into the hubs. Supposedly, after giving the hubs a kick or two, they worked for a second, but I'm not sure if the guy who told me that really knows what he's talking about.

I'm planning on jacking up the truck tomorrow and investigating further. I've still got the drive flanges, so I may bolt those puppies on just to see if my hubs are no good.
