Maybe this will work.

1. Remove the spring and thread a bolt/washer/nut combo through the it.
2. Tighten the nut until the spring is compressed enough to install on the truck.
3. While spring is compressed, take two heavy duty wire ties, loop them through the spring and tighten them.
4. Remove the compressed spring from the bolt/washer/nut and install it on the truck.
4. Once the spring is installed and the retaining nut is tightened to spec, CAREFULLY cut the wire ties with a pair of dykes.

If you don't have heavy enough wire ties, or they are too thick and prevent you from getting the bolt through you could try some safety or bailing wire.

I've used this method before with great success (but never on a PW).

Keep in mind that compressed springs can be dangerous if they decide to become un-compressed at the wrong time.
