Yeah but maybe the rust can travel over a period of time! You have the battery up on drivers front spewing out corrosion and the drivers feet and the drivers door being open to the weather which allows door jam areas to get wet. Small hinge hole areas could allow a direct shot of moisture down inside of things and over time cause rust. Drivers side to the rear area could also have drivers feet standing on running boards on the drivers side reaching into the bed for things. If the truck was stuck or in deep mud or water the driver could possibly get out and walk the running board to do something. This could in theory cover the drivers side of the truck. Corrosion can travel and over time work its slow death on the drivers side more. As for rust traveling to the other side there may be a barrier of grease and oil down the center of the vehicle where the tranny and drive shaft areas are at.
