I am going to have to do some serious snow moving this winter and am the proud owner of a 1949 v-304 IHC-powered B-1 PW with 40-inch Gama-goat tires and chains. I would like to mount a V-plow on this truck in the winter and a boom in the summer. I don't want to permanently modify this truck (no ugly welded brackets) but I do want to work it hard and not damage it. I know the axles are the weak link, this letter is not about that. What is the best way to mount the snowplow? I am planning to use the winch to raise and lower it, or would it be better to add hydralics? As far as a boom goes, I figure I could mount it to the snowplow brackets in the summer. This is not going to be a crane substitute, just used like a medium-sized loader tractor.
Lately, it has occured to me that it might be easier on the truck to mount the boom on the back, since there is so much more weight in the front. I am going to build guides so I can string the winch cable to the back of the truck anyway (it's amazing how often it does no good at all to winch further into the mess you are already in). Please give me your opinions, except if you think I should baby my truck. It was built to work. I am not one to abuse it but I will use it! Thanks
Dave
