I thought the same thing but the T-10 is all
square-cut gears and everything else I've found
is helically-cut. Nothing interchanged. My gear
grinding adventures were in an M-37 with and
earlier 1/2Ton 'wrong' tranny. I found out that
the NP420 from the M-37 (synchro in 3 and 4) bolts
right up the the same holes. It also used the same
clutch plate as well as the same driveshaft flange
on the other end. The reason mine had been
replaced is that the old crashbox PTO will not
swap from one trans to the other because of the
square v/ helical gear cuts and the M-37 had a PTO
winch and lacked the proper PTO, so the guy just
took trans and all from a 1/2 ton. You can use
the NP420 behind a V-8 bellhousing also by just
swapping the input shaft and bearing retainer
from either an NP435 or NP420 V-8 application,
about a 10 minute job.
