Removing the speedometer cable.

I am having a hard time getting to the speedometer cable at the rear of the transmission. The truck is a '56 C-3-PW. The parking brake is in the way and I can't get any tools in there to loosen the end. I bought a new inside replacement cable and would like to clean the inside of the cable casing.

Any ideas?
