Needed the resevior to keep vacuum available at low speed. A 6 cyl doesn't pull as much vacuum as a modern 8 does but you still can find some cars with small tanks for the vacuum. (especially with all the vacuum operated items of the seventies)

In it's time, I bet that tank has saved both the truck and many a life on a long downgrade or stopping a towed load.

The brake lines are another matter, two should connect to the lowest point on the booster, so the bleed screw up high could release air in the system. One toward the rear would be input from the master, while output would be up toward the front. Someone with a manual or a working system should give specifics here. Did someone disconnect yours? You could bypass (not recommended) the booster till it's repaired, but remember, you would not have the same braking power especially with a load. Regards WAW
