One easy way is to put a chalk mark on the driveshaft and a chalk mark on the outside edge of one tire. Push the truck or drive it so that the mark on the tire goes around one revolution. Have somebody count the revolutions of the driveshaft. If the driveshaft goes around almost but not quite 5 times then you know you have 4.89 gears. If it goes around almost 6 times you have 5.83 gears.
