There's a real neat thing you can do if you have a NP203. It's especially helpful if you have either numerically low axle gears or an automatic. You install front hubs on your front axle. You find a NP205, married/GM style (output is passenger side just like Dodge). You get the 203/205 adapter from Off Road Design in Colorado (they're on the Net) and use only the front part (about 5.75" long, + adapter) of the 203. Voila! You have an all gear all cast iron transfer case system, with 1.96:1 and 3.84:1 (is the 203 low range ratio 2:1 or 1.96:1?). I'm doing a conversion like this on my 88 Ford F350 expedition truck, mainly to get rid of the chain drive/planetary geared aluminum transfer case but also to get a lower low range and also to have a higher intermediate low range for long distance sand dune driving in western Australia.
