Buffing Enamel?

Does anyone here have experience buffing enamel? I know that the original baked enamels were not buffed. However, the final paint (Dupont Centari) put on my cab and fenders by local body shops has too much orange peel. I tried hand polishing with light polishing compound. Unfortunately, that left some swirl marks that are noticeable in full sun.

I have been told that enamel can be hand sanded with 1,500 grit paper to remove orange peel. Is this good advice? If so, what do you do next if anything? Or is it better to have a professional use a buffing wheel? I don't want to make matters worse.

Please comment only if you have experience or have seen this done with good results. Thanks
