They do have a machine the can grind a rod journel in the block with out removing the crank. It is a older type tool. I had a rod journel turned in a Slant 6 Dodge once that way. They use a electric motor to turn the back wheel and the drive line in gear would turn the crank around. The grinder bolted to the botton of the block in the Pan bolt holes. It had a small electric grinder that would follow the crank as it turned around and grind the journel. They kept checking it till it was in specs and all I had to do was pull the piston to replace the rod and install a new bearing to match the grind. I think it would be hard to find some one who still dose it. I had it done in the 70s by a Old Timer at a wrecking yard when I thru a rod bearing in Northern Calif. The old guy felt sorry for me and only charged 50.00 to do it and gave me the rod. I did all the rest of the work needed for the job and he did the grinding. I bought a bearing at a Auto Store. This system only worked on certain types of engines and the Dodge Six was one of them. I drove the old Dodge for several years befor I sold it and it held up. Mark H.
